I found CrossFit 4+ years ago from my brother-in-law because I was in the worst shape of my life. I had always been in shape since I played sports through high school and college and was struggling to find something that I enjoyed and allowed me to stay in shape. It wasn’t working for me to just go into a globo-gym 3-4 times a week so I needed something different.

My brother-in-law told me to check-out crossfit.com and to read through as many of the journal articles as I could as well as review/watch the videos they had on the site before I was planning to visit him later on in the month. During that visit, he would put me through a sample “WOD” with one of his friends and himself. Well, I read/watched all I could and I was motivated to try this “crossfit thing”. We did the first workout and the rest is history. CrossFit keeps me motivated and coming back for more because I am always getting better, trying or doing something new, plus I now get to see all the improvements/changes of our members on a day-to-day basis since I became an affiliate owner in late 2008.

What drew me to CFit-As I started to get older I was getting bored with the regular weightlifting routine and having played competitive sports earlier in life I found Crossfit to bring back fill that competitive void. Additionally, the mix of Gymnastic, weightlifting, and cardio continually makes each workout unique and challenging.

What keeps me coming back-

1- Seeing other people do things they have never been able to do.

2. The opportunity to get better than the day before.

I always thought of myself as an athletic and in shape person. I felt like I could walk into any situation and not have a issue with it. A few years back, Travis called me up and told me to come to the garage, he had something he wanted me to try. I what seemed to be a pretty mundane workout, I was put on my ass and sore for a week. Unlike most, I wasn’t hooked, I was scared. But three and a half years later, I find myself engulfed in “the sport of fitness”

Personally, I favor the lifts in CrossFit, specifically Olympic Lifting. The evolution of the sport keeps me wanting more and continuing to find new areas of education to help me grow as athlete, trainer, and partner of H.O.T.Side CrossFit.

Back in 2011, I realized that my gym routine wasn’t working for me anymore so I began looking for a new challenge. Perusing the internet, I stumbled upon CrossFit.  I called H.O.T.Side, went in to try my free work out and never looked back! I quickly fell in love with CrossFit and the community that I was surrounded by, so I took the next step and got my Level 1 certification. As a teacher by day, I am able to combine both my passion for CrossFit and teaching into being a coach.  What I love most about being a coach is watching each individual member grow as an athlete and do things they never thought they could. I feel blessed to be part of the positive and encouraging family at H.O.T.Side!

The first time I walked into HotSide CrossFit I remembered feeling intimidated, yet it felt just right. After my first WOD I knew that I needed to incorporate more CrossFit into my training. It was a “VERY” humbling and eye opening experience but the best part of it was to experience the encouraging and supportive atmosphere that our HOTside community shares. As a CrossFit trainer at HOTside I strive to become a stickler for technique and a passionate advocate of performance rather than aesthetic goals. With 10 years of experience as a sports performance/nutritionist advisor and soccer coach at the collegiate level and possessing a Master’s degree in sports performance including sports nutrition I enjoy providing to our members and clients with the tools and information regarding training, nutrition and recovery for a complete developmental program.

I have always “worked out”, I was an avid gym hopper, I was constantly bouncing from one place to another trying the new fitness fad, and I would go for a while and then get bored and jump to the next fad. Then my husband joined H.O.T.Side CrossFit and was immediately hooked. It took about six months of him nagging and me having excuses like, “I have to get in shape to try CrossFit”, before I gave it a shot. After my first workout I was knocked on my butt but I finally felt like I had found a fitness program that I could embrace. CrossFit has helped me build the body I have always hoped for. It has also allowed me to meet some of the most wonderful people I have ever known. Every day I see people accomplish things they never thought they could do and their successes are celebrated by everyone in the box. CrossFit is a fitness lifestyle that constantly challenges you to become a better version of yourself. Finally I have found place where I will never be bored!

The first time I tried CrossFit I was instantly hooked.  As a former gymnast, I was always looking for that one thing that challenged & excited me like gymnastics did; CrossFit instantly filled that void.  One of my favorite parts to CrossFit is the community!  Everyone there supports you to do your best and the last person to finish is cheered for just as much as the first!  In CrossFit, it doesn’t matter if you can lift 40lbs or 400lbs, what matters is that you are there to better yourself with a community of people that are all cheering for you.  I have met some of my best friends through CrossFit, and I am forever grateful because of it!
